East Preston village is a thriving community. Formerly heavily populated with elderly residents, it is now becoming very popular with younger families due to its coastal location and active village life.

The village itself has very limited facilities for younger people. The Parish Council gets repeated demands from its residents to provide more outdoor facilities in the village but there is limited land available.

This project is to site a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) on the Lashmar Recreation Ground in East Preston. This area of land is owned by Arun District Council who is keen to work together with the Parish Council to improve the area and provide more facilities. Due to restricted budgets, Arun District Council is unable to offer any form of financial assistance with this project, although it  is prepared to maintain the facility once built. As this is one of the larger sites of land in East Preston, it lends itself to such a project. Currently there is a young children’s playground, a small skate ramp and youth shelter sited here. The Youth Club and Guide Hut is also next door to the area and will benefit greatly from a new MUGA.

The Lashmar Recreation Ground is used regularly for football training and is next to the East Preston Football Club professional ground. This project will provide all local groups and youngsters a facility for six-a-side soccer games, tournaments and training. Additional benefits will include: all year round usability as it will have a hard wearing tarmac playing surface; it can be used by all ages and abilities; low maintenance costs; will encourage healthy outdoor activity. It will be an open and free facility and will be suitable for everyone to use.
