Story

Continuing on from a fantastic 1st round of fund raising where we have already raised £3410, this page has been set up so people can continue to donate upto and past the challenge date of the 21/08/21. We would love to get upto the 4k mark so we can make a big donation to the “Tree of Hope” charity and help more children smile like we know Ebonie will when she gets on that bike!

Ebonies story….

After a difficult pregnancy , our Ebonie was born into this world prematurely at just 33 weeks. As parents we were overjoyed of Ebonies arrival, she was here safe and seemingly healthy and after 3 weeks in the special care baby unit we were finally able to go home together. Doctors told us that although Ebonie has started life behind she should catchup to children her age within the next few years. At 9 months old we started to realise that Ebonie wasn't hitting the milestones she should be, she could not sit up , use her left arm or weight bare . Her legs are very stiff and feet are constantly in a pointing position . After taking Ebonie to see the GP, we were referred to see a consultant, who advised Ebonie may have Cerebral Palsy.

Six months later Ebonie had an MRI Scan which confirmed that the white matter surrounding Ebonies brain was damaged. She has periventricular leucomalacia which is a type of brain damaged caused from being born prematurely and this confirmed our worst fears with a diagnosis of Spastic Cerebral Palsy. As you can imagine we were devastated, the specialists couldn't confirm whether Ebonie will ever be able to walk which was very hard to hear and completely life changing for our family.

Since the diagnosis Ebonie has been havinv Physiotherapy every six weeks which is really helping, she is also on medication to help ease the muscle tension caused by the spasticity from her cerebral palsy, this can be painful and makes her limbs extremely stiff.

Ebonie is now nearly 2 years old, she is still unable to stand or weight bare but is a very happy and determined toddler. Seeing the frustration on her face of not knowing why she cant do things like other children and knowing she wants to be running around with her big sister and friends is heartbreaking. The road ahead will continue to be challenging, she is currenty due to be seen nearer to her 3rd Birthday to see if she will need an operation to help her walk.

Her Daddy and 8 friends/ family members have committed to completing the National 3 Peaks Challenge which involves climbing the 3 highest peaks in England , Scotland and Wales within 24hrs! In doing so they hope to help raise money for Ebonie and also hope to make a contributution to the “Tree of Hope” charity who do fantastic work to help transform the lives of sick and disabled children.

Thankyou so much to those who have already donated!

With love Jay, Kim and big sister Millie x
