Story

Echo in Africa is a project between the British Society of Echocardiography and SUNheart which takes place at a Hospital in Cape Town.

Our role will be screening students from secondary schools in low socio economic rural communities to look for early stage rheumatic heart disease. This project will give these children early access to diagnosis and necessary aftercare through the Tygerberg Hospital.

We are cardiac physiologists who both work in an NHS hospital in the UK and perform echocardiograms daily. We enjoy our jobs very much, it is very rewarding to be able to help people who are poorly.

Echocardiograms are such an important test to diagnose heart conditions and be a part of saving someone's life. We want to share our skills and knowledge, work hard and support other communities by going to Africa to help the children who aren't as fortunate to have the same healthcare as we have in the UK. These children need these tests in order to be screened and treated if needed.

We would be really grateful if people would help us raise money for the organisation, which can help develop equipment, screening efficiency and give the children the tests and treatment they need.

Thank you
