Power to the People follows the People’s Advocate Party from its grass root beginnings to eventually, against all odds, climbing to the lofty halls of the House of Commons and into No.10 Downing Street, with many capers and mishaps along the way (Russian mafia, corrupt local Councillors and local gangsters).

Synopsis

MICKEY TOBIN, a local builder, is woken up on his sofa by the postman and is late for work. As he runs about getting his head together, we hear on his home radio local tory MP MARC CANNON talking about the Tory caretaker Prime Minister, MADDY APRILS. Mickey picks up the bills and a bank statement and sees that his account is overdrawn. He rushes to his van to find his resident parking permit has fallen from his windscreen and his car has been clamped. To top it all, as he is waiting for the clamp to be removed, a bird shits on his head.

Mickey and his loyal labourer and product of a broken home, P-HOLE, are on a scaffold. Mickey rants about the car clamp and fine, he then gets a phone call from his long-suffering wife, JO, to say his dad has had a heart attack. Mickey and P-Hole rush to the hospital to find Mickey’s dad has been waiting for two hours to be seen by a doctor. Mickey is disgusted at the state of the hospital’s A & E department. That evening, when leaving the hospital, he finds his car has been clamped again in the hospital car park. Angry and frustrated, he goes to a friend’s house whose son, MEGSY, a computer whizz kid, helps Mickey film a rant on youtube. The video goes viral. Mickey has an epiphany and decides to start up a political party ‘THE PEOPLE’S ADVOCATE PARTY’ (or P.A.P) is born. He explains his epiphany to his long-time friend and full-time gambler, TERRY. Together, with P-Hole, they embark on a life changing journey of political adventure driven by Mickey, who solely believes he has had a vocational calling and, with it, a chance to make a difference for the everyday folk in the local constituency. On their journey they come across many colourful characters:

MARC CANNON, a seedy MP, who abuses his power when allocating new flats to local, young, overweight girls that are desperate for accommodation.

MICKEY SNR, Mickey’s dad, an ex-Dockers shop steward and a lifelong Marxist.

NAN, P-Hole’s nan, who is falling foul to Alzheimer’s.

ARCHIE, an Hasidic Jewish accountant, who isn’t even Jewish.

JO, Mickey’s long-suffering wife.

BILLY HARRIS, a self-made property Millionaire and an old friend of MICKEY’S dad, who donates a million pounds to the Party which takes the P.A.P to its next level and also fuels HARRIS’S hidden agenda.

JULIA, the PA to Billy Harris.

ALEXANDER KLOSMICOV, a billionaire Russian oligarch, whose mission it is to buy every spare piece of land for sale in London.

BIG BRIAN and BENNY THE SHIRT, two local, small time gangsters, who see a bit of corruptible mileage in the political party coup.

VERONICA, Jo’s sister and the leader of an eco-warrior commune.

MEHMET, owner of the local kebab shop.

TAFF and RYDIAN, two militant Welshmen who own a cab office.

Despite all the odds and with the help and guidance of MICKEY’S dad and the universe they achieve their goal of national political acknowledgement.

The vision is to turn the Power to the People concept into a four season TV series of six, 30 min episodes in each block. Power to the People will be shot around Bermondsey, South East London. The locations will consist of traditional local pubs and land marks and, most importantly, with the involvement of local Bermondsey people.
