Story

We are taking part in the Eden Valley Epic Cycle Sportive on the 7th October 2018, cycling 60 miles to raise money for Jacob who is currently two weeks into a six week stint of treatments between The Christie in Manchester and Manchester Children's Hospital. The money raised will be used to try and make life as normal as possible for Jacob and his parents Vanessa and Mark.

Jacob was initially approved for two months of NHS funded Proton Beam therapy in Jacksonville, Florida – but this was cancelled the day before they were due to fly out, owing to the unexpected growth of his tumour. Jacob had already completed four cycles of chemotherapy but this part of his treatment had to be revised to include a different combination of drugs, with increased likelihood of painful side effects. Unfortunately, a scan after chemotherapy round 5 (and subsequent discussions with their team of consultants) has now formally ruled out Proton Beam therapy as an option for him going forward – and so traditional radiotherapy treatment is now being undertaken instead.

This crowd funding page is in addition to Vanessa and Mark's crowd funding page and all funds raised on this page will be added to theirs, nothing will be withdrawn until needed. This unique link for our ride makes it easier for us to track our fundraising progress.
