Weʼve raised £142 to Get Edinburgh Clan up and running
- Funded on Wednesday, 11th December 2019
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
I'm raising money to help the Edinburgh Clan get up and running as a rugby team in its own right.
Unlike disability sport, which results in segregation of those with learning or other challenges, the Edinburgh Clan is a unified rugby team. The team is made up of players with and without learning difficulties, playing full contact rugby with modified rules.
We use a system of enablers, who as well as playing their own game, enable another player to play their best game too. Vulnerable players wear a red scrum cap to identify them.
As we don't have a permanent home at the moment, we need to raise the funds required to pay for the use of training and match day facilities, equipment and kit (to start with).
We are part of Trust Rugby International. Founded in 2010 Trust Rugby International (TRI) is a proactive, Scottish based charity (SCIO), whose goal is to bring individuals and communities together through the game of rugby. Unlike other organisations, who use the non-contact version of the sport to involve people with learning disabilities, TRI believes all players can be enabled to participate to their full potential.
.HELP US REPRESENT SCOTLAND
Our first goal is to help those Edinburgh Clan players who are hoping to travel, to play for the Scottish National Clan at the Festival of Inclusive Rugby in Cullera, Spain. Our flights are booked and we've paid for them ourselves. Our accommodation is being provided by our hosts, the Spanish team El Clan, but, due to the nature of our group, we need to take some support staff with us and this is an added cost of around £2000. We'd like to reduce the cost to each individual.
We really appreciate any help you can give us.

We've had a busy few weeks fundraising. The people of Haddington were very generous when we had a bag packing event there on the 31st of August prior to going to Spain on the 6th of September. Although our trip is over we still have some bills to come in so we are not letting up. Picture below from the 3rd Festival of Inclusive Rugby held in Cullera, Spain. Many thanks to everyone who helped get us there and made it a weekend to remember.
