    Story

We're doing a Sponsored charity walk on the 9th of September from Dunfermline to Edinburgh which will cover a distance of approx 20 miles, crossing over the forth road bridge. We want to raise funds for a local Scottish voluntary group called Re-Act who are doing great work to donate aid to the refugees abroad in Europe and also to support the local refugee families in Scotland.

Re-Act, short for Refugee Action Scotland, is a not-for-profit humanitarian aid project launched in 2015, in response to the growing worldwide refugee crisis. They work to fundraise and collect vital donations from all over Scotland to transport to refugee camps such as Calais and throughout other crisis areas of Europe. There are thousands of displaced people who have fled their home countries in Africa and throughout the Middle East, and have suffered through war, conflict, and poverty, witnessing atrocities that most cannot begin to comprehend. In a desperate attempt to find safety, they risk their lives in a treacherous journey over land and sea to seek a better life. Sadly, many do not survive. In spite of this, they still risk everything to attempt these journeys because for most, the only alternative is death. And even if they do survive the journey, they are faced with refugee camps that are often without sufficient living space, food, water or supplies.

Since their establishment in 2015, Re-Act have sent approximately 1000 tonnes of donations to aid refugee camps around the world. In Edinburgh, support in the form of play groups and language classes have helped refugee families living here greatly. Re-Act also aim to challenge the largely negative and often false information being spread through mainstream media. They believe that everyone should have the right to live.
