I've raised £5000 to Help fund Astrid's spinal fusion surgery.

On the 16th of Sept we'll be taking part in Tough Mudder to raise money for our amazing friend Astrid (that's her on the far right of the pic).
Astrid is a 37 year old single mother of two wonderful children Daisy and Marshall. After being unwell her whole life Astrid was eventually diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) at the age of 30 which forced her to give up the job the loved as a science teacher. Within 3 years Daisy was also diagnosed with the same condition.
So what is EDS?
EDS is a genetic condition that affects collagen throughout the body causing chronic wide spread severe pain, frequent sprains and dislocations, cardiac abnormalities, severe digestive distress and nervous system malfunction.
Despite Astrid doing everything to manage her condition she has recently been diagnosed with Craniocervical instability, Atlantoaxil instability and Cerebeller Tonsil Ectopia - this causes dislocations of the head and neck and the spinal cord to be crushed and damaged. Part of her brain is also herniating downwards.
The damage is progressive and irreversable.
This is where we can help.
Astrid’s deterioration can be halted with spinal fusion surgery with a 95% success rate. We are fundraising for Astrid to undergo the surgery at a clinic in Barcelona, which will cost around £55,000.
Astrid is fiercely strong and a fighter. Every time EDS has knocked her down she’s gotten back up and kicked it’s ass twice as hard to carrying on living her life for herself and her kids. She’s also gentle, wise and would move heaven and earth for any of her friends.
Astrid is now in a race against time to raise money for her own surgery. We want to do everything we can help her.
Our heart felt thanks for reading this and supporting us. xxx
