Story
Dafydd Roberts is a Watch Manager in the North Wales Fire & Rescue Service. He is a union rep with over 20 years unblemished service. 2 years ago, fellow FBU members told him they believed a post had been filled by the relative of a senior officer, with no competitive process. Dafydd followed this up and investigated, and discussed this in a private WhatsApp group.
For this he was pursued in a disciplinary process. An independent investigation commissioned by the Service, at significant public cost, later stated that senior officer who pursued that process had a case to answer for bullying, harassment, and discrimination against Dafydd. That report was buried, no action taken. Dafydd was misled, told that the report (which he wasn't allowed to read) found “both sides” had some blame. His case was referred to in the Senedd and covered in the media;

Dafydd, battling work-related depression and anxiety, went off sick and unfortunately missed the strict three-month time limit to bring a claim. The Tribunal didn’t allow an extension, not because the claim lacked merit, but on technical time limit grounds. The fire service pursued and won a rare and punishing costs order against Dafydd of £7,500, something employers almost never do in the tribunal.
He now faces financial ruin. NWFRS is demanding he pay £1,000 a month, drop all claims and sign an NDA. This is not only unjust but financially devastating for him. We urgently need your help to:
*Stop enforcement action that is financially impossible for him to satisfy, and would be ruinous to his credit and possibly even require him to further mortgage or even sell his home in the worst case scenario
*For any 'stretch' amount raised, instruct counsel to represent him
This isn’t just about Dafydd. Any FBU member who speaks out or brings a tribunal claim risks being singled out like this.
If you want to help stop the culture of unaccountability —please stand with Dafydd.
