Story

"The performances are fresh, crisp and confident, with the whole company blending extremely well together" - Love Midlands Theatre

"A very well researched, funny, highly critical if not scathing look at egg freezing as a ‘work perk’ well presented in the problematic context of neoliberal feminism alongside equally dubious discourses of empowerment, choice and reproductive liberation" - Dr Kylie Baldwin.

The Egg Rumour is a is a contemporary play/musical with elements of comedy which educates people on the new ‘craze’ for women in the workplace – egg freezing.

The Egg Rumour brings awareness and the chance to think for yourself. Through the play you meet Iva, a young woman who is offered a promotion – in exchange for her fertility - unsure what is right for her, pressured and misinformed, she takes the job. In the change of Iva’s life you meet her Fella, Bossman and fellow Office Gal workers. The audience are caught up in Iva’s imaginative mind and sees a spectacle from the party leader, who is from the F.F.F (fun, fertility and freezing) selling her the idea of ‘Social Freezing’, only touching on how many health complications it can bring.

A sung through, fantasy dream of Iva and her Doctor is sure to make you laugh through the In Ya Face theatre style.

It explores the manipulative control and pressures that women receive in the work place through new promotional contracts, compelling women to ‘social freeze’. A new perk offered by corporate companies, allowing women to freeze their eggs and then work a further 10 years without the worry of having children.

However, we discovered that the success rate for women to successfully conceive once their eggs have been frozen is as low as 5%.

We believe that this play is vital as these statistics are not being shown to the women and so are not able to make an informed decision about what they are doing to their bodies.

We are working in association with FERTILITY NETWORK, a UK based organisation which supports women who are experiencing problems with their fertility. We also hope to have them attend some of our plays for post show discussions.

With your money, we will be able to take our show to Birmingham, London and Manchester fringe venues.

There are 11 creatives overall involved in the project and so your money can help to fund:
