Story

The Eastbourne Islamic Cultural Centre is a unique addition to Eastbourne's cultural landscape, providing both a place of worship as well as being a place for all members of the community to come together in a friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment.

The development of the ICC started over 20 years ago when members of the Eastbourne Islamic Society held regular daily prayer meetings in whatever location they could. The decision was made to build the EICC – a place for friends, family, colleagues and communities to meet, integrate and develop a richer understanding of each other’s faiths and cultures.

Upon completion, the EICC will be open to everybody and a series of community focused events and activities are envisaged including a mother and toddle group, community drop in centre, exercise classes, lectures and talks on issues of local interest, exhibitions and displays, and outreach activities aimed at combatting loneliness and homelessness.

In 2018, the plan is to raise further funds to support the activities of the new Eastbourne Islamic Cultural Centre. Part of this activity is in memory of Jarah Alrajhy who tragically passed away in 2017. He was a student in Brighton and a big supporter of cultural diversity and integration within the local area. Money raised through this appeal will be used to honour his work, name and memory in bringing people of all faiths and cultures together, developing a closer cultural understanding and promoting peace and tolerance.
