Story
At the time of writing the script for the Eighteenth Silence in 2018, the Male suicide rate in the UK was at 17.8 per 100,000. 3 years, 1 pandemic and 3 lockdowns later the statistics are suspected to be sky high in 2020/21. The exact number is not known because it can take up to a year to determine a suicide without a note or with alcohol or drugs in a persons system.
The eighteenth silence is a short film that focuses on real life experiences from the director Ryan Wilkinson. Stereotypically, film and TV only show the aftermath of suicide or use suicide as a sub-plot. The aim of the Eighteenth silence is to educate its viewers on the signs of mental deterioration and in turn save lives by showing the tragedy and the events leading up to it.
Our main aim is to distribute to educational institutions to spread awareness of young male suicide and use short film as a new approach to supporting people with mental health issues in the UK. If 1 viewer spots the early signs of mental deterioration, that will be portrayed in the film, then that's 1 out of the 84 males that take their lives every week in the UK saved. We will also be doing the film festival run, which will showcase the film to a bigger audience.
The crew onboard have years of experience working in TV, Film and Commercials and have all opted to work for free because they feel its a story that needs to be told.
Your donation will go towards the distribution of the film, food for the crew, props, lights and camera equipment. Our aim is to reach at least 2000 pounds and the smallest of donations will go a long way. We are scheduled to start shooting It’s time to put an end to the sky rocketing numbers of young male suicide in the UK.
Let’s talk about it
