Story
My live streaming webcams on Berneray in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland started as a small project back in February expected for launch in spring 2020 in connection with my gift shop Coralbox. Due to the current lockdown situation and travel restrictions to our islands and Scotland, I have brought forward my webcam project to launch now. This is to allow those of you unable to travel to the Scottish islands the opportunity to view Berneray and a little part of the Hebrides in your own home at any time.
Located on the small island of Berneray, my live webcams look onto Bays Loch. Currently I have two live webcams on the shore behind Coralbox Gift Shop, with one as a fixed view in the shoreline and one as a moving PTZ webcam panning out around the bay. These both stream live 24 hours a day. Here you can watch the tide rise & fall and the ever changing weather. Birds and wildlife of all kinds can be seen and occasionally seals and otters are spotted playing in the water.
So far my webcam project has taken many hours of hard work behind the scenes and testing / buying cameras and equipment etc. to get up and running to this stage. A new dedicated webcam website has also been built and camera hosting / streaming all put in place, with continued running costs and maintenance.
My little wooden gift shop Coralbox currently remains closed for the foreseeable future with tourism and travel restrictions for lockdown in place to the islands. As I had first aimed to launch my project later in 2020 at the height of my visitor season, I am now faced with not recovering these costs through Coralbox.
If you enjoy watching my webcams here on Berneray or wish to support my ongoing project, any donations towards the continued upkeep and streaming of these cameras is much appreciated. Thank you x

About myself and Coralbox: I am 27 years old and live on Berneray where I run my little wooden shop, Coralbox. Each spring, I look forward to opening my shop, meeting you all and sharing my island photos and stories. This year will be different, where I bring you live webcam views of Bays Loch and you hopefully you can visit Berneray later in the year or next.
About Berneray: Berneray is a small inhabited island located in the Sound of Harris. Only 2 miles by 3 miles in size, Berneray has a 3 mile long white sanded beach that backs onto Machair land, which has some of the best flora and fauna in Scotland. Berneray is connected to North Uist by causeway and South Harris by ferry and is located in the middle of the 140 mile chain of islands, which make up the Outer Hebrides.

It’s a great thing to have done, Eilidh. We’re back now, but it’s still interesting to see what’s happening “up the road”!

Love your webcams, Eilidh, watching every day. We visited the Outer Hebrides two years ago, passing briefly through Berneray for the Sound of Harris ferry. Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gaidhlig a-nis!
