Story
Fire officials in Greece raised the death toll from a wildfire that raged through a coastal area east of Athens to 91 and reported that 25 people were missing Sunday, six days after Europe's deadliest forest fire in more than a century.
The fire sped flames through the village of Mati, a popular resort spot, without warning on July 23. A database maintained by the Centre for the Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters in Brussels shows it as the deadliest wildfire in Europe since 1900.
The vast majority of victims died in the fire itself, though a number drowned in the sea while fleeing the flames.
Living far away, watching and listening to all these dramatic stories of people drowned into the sea, burned on their attempt to save their life devastated me.
There were children found charred in their grandparents hug, a 14 year old girl jumped from a cliff believing that she will land into the sea killing herself,26 people dead hugging each other in a big circle into a seaside house 20metres from the coast as it was impossible due to the fumes to find their way to the beach and many more unbelievable sad stories which made me realise once again what matters most in life.
Today, more than 1000 houses are burned down from the fire and people are suffering from great losses since there is no electricity and water to the area affected but yet to recognize the amazing volunteer work.
This catastrophe happened in my hometown which I really love and hope to see again as green as I left it.
This wildfire left nothing behind but dead people and families mooring the lost of their beloved.
Please join me to this cause and give a hand to help all these people left behind with nothing but hope
