Story
We're Raising Money For Downderry Children and Family Centre community Foodbank.
We started our food bank in Jan 2019 in response to the need in our local community. We have partnered with Fareshare and currently run our food bank on a Friday morning from our centre in Downham. Our main focus is on families with young children who are struggling financially at this difficult time.
When lockdown first started we continued to run our food bank and starting a free delivery service to those who were unable to collect, and the response from our users and local community has been fantastic.
Now we are into our second lockdown and we are still seeing the number of users increase week on week and we are currently supporting in excess of 25 families per week (which is approximately 85 individuals). That may not seem a lot but we are a small community food bank with a limited amount of food to distribute so this increase has had a massive impact on our food stocks.
This is why we are asking for your support. The majority of food donations we receive are tinned, dried or packets which is fantastic and is easy to store. However we would also like to be able to provide some fresh items for our families such as milk, bread, eggs, cheese, yogurts and fresh fruit and vegetables. These items need to be purchased each week to ensure they are fresh and usable.
£500 would enable us to purchase these fresh items for our families for approximately 3 months.
If you don't wish to donate money but would like to support us with food donations, these can be dropped at Downderry Children and Family Centre, Shroffold Road, Bromley BR1 5PD, or contact us on 020 8695 5915.
