Story

My mother was part of the Windrush generation that came to the UK on an invitation from the Queen promising a better life. It was a good job that she could sew as the only work she could find was piece work sewing from home. I remember bundles being dropped off and mum sewing through the night to meet her deadline. mum loved sewing and made all our clothes. She dreamed of going back to Westmoreland Jamaica not only to live but to teach young girls and single mothers how to sew as she attributes her survival in the UK to being able to sew. Mum passed away age 93 without realising that dream. I am her daughter and it would be an honour to set up a school the Pearl Ramsay Sewing School in Westmoreland Jamaica for twenty young ladies to learn how to sew.
