Story

I am setting off on the 15th of September to Sri Lanka to volunteer on a great mental health placement that is run by an organisation called SLV. SLV focus on global mental health, working in various communities that need extra support.

Myself and the other volunteers will be working in a local community mental health setting running therapeutic activities with a range of different age groups and with service users at different stages of their recovery. We will be working in psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centres and community outreach programs. We will also be working with individuals with special needs in schools, residential centres and drop in centres and will spend some time teaching English.

In order for SLV to run their placements successfully their is a cost of £1000 per volunteer which is completely self-funded. This will cover homestay accomodation, food, in-country training, the volunteer visa, transport throughout the placement and the support the volunteers receive including project managers and co-ordinators. I am saving up as best as I can towards this placement but any contribution towards this would be really appreciated.

A lot more about the organisation can be found out at https://slv.global/.
