I've raised £500 to volunteer in Kenya as part of a ‘Women’s Empowerment’ project, transforming the lives of disadvantaged women through education.

I am heading out to Nairobi, Kenya for 8 weeks to volunteer as part of a ‘Women’s Empowerment’ programme with IVHQ. The centre I will be based at works closely with young women affected by HIV and AIDS, providing education, counselling, guidance and childcare. The aim is to provide women with the skills and knowledge needed to become self sufficient; helping them to set up small businesses to improve their living situations.
There are nearly 1.5 million people living with HIV or AIDS in Kenya alone, with the country’s highest rates in Nairobi. The rates for women are much higher than men, standing at 7.6% of the population infected compared to 5.6%. This programme is so important because women in particular continue to face marginalisation and stigma within communities, restricting them from reaching their full potential within society.
The money I raise and the role I play within the charity will hopefully mean a brighter future for the women attending the center. IVHQ and myself will greatly appreciate any donations you can give to help make this possible!
