I've raised £200 to help fund hard working carers throughout Harrow to have a couple of hours respite. Funds raised will go towards paying for day trips etc.

Disability support

Story

We are a carers support group based in Harrow helping to encourage, support and empower carers from all different backgrounds. Carers help support many people including people who are suffering from learning disabilities, physical disabilities, long term mental health issues, addiction problems or caring for the elderly.

1 in 8 adults (around 6.5 million people) are carers. By 2037, it's anticipated that the number of carers will increase to 9 million. Every day another 6,000 people take on a caring responsibility – that equals over 2 million people each year. 58% of carers are women and 42% are men.

At Elevate, we are here to help carers feel supported by sharing their worries, learn strategies from other carers and make friends with others who are in a similar situation to them. Caring from someone is a 24/7 role but without a carer, days would be very different.

6.8 million people who provide unpaid care for a disabled, seriously-ill or older loved one in the UK save the state £132 billion a year – close to the cost of a second NHS.

We at Elevate carers would like to raise funds to support our carers to have a day of respite. Respite is a short time of rest. For carers this can be from paying for a specialist outreach worker to take the cared for out and about for a day so a carer can have sometime to take care of themselves, to having a day trip organised for the carers to the seaside or a museum.
