At the end of April 2026, I will be walking across Europe in memory of my daughter Sian who passed away on Christmas Day, 2020 raising money for Doctors Without Borders.
My aim is to cross as many European Borders as possible on foot and will finish my journey on Christmas day 2026.
If you are able to offer your support through donation thank you. Your money will help with costs such as equipment needed to complete the trip, accommodation and food.
Sian's Walk in Aid of Doctors Without Borders and Re-Solv in memory of my daughter Sian Mehlmann.
About me…
Hi, amazing people of the world, my name is Liz. I am a proud mum of 7 fantastic grown children (still grieving my second-born daughter, Sian). At 54, my greatest achievements so far have been my children and finally getting my degree at 50. I have led an overall mediocre and ordinary life. Deep down, I have always wanted to do more, but never really tried to do anything about it.
Then, at the beginning of 2024, I had a small stroke, which was diagnosed after I had an MRI months later. The MRI also revealed that I have a condition called Small Vessel Ischemia, which is a brain condition that makes you prone to more strokes, dementia and some problems with my spine. This year, I was also diagnosed with Osteoporosis. So, overall, I am pretty healthy, ha ha.
The months after the stroke, I was miserable, with no support from professionals, I relied on information from Google to, in a way, fix my own issues. To start with, it was difficult! I couldn’t do anything physical. I had to reduce my work as I could not walk very far, and a workout was impossible. What I could do is change my lifestyle, including stopping smoking and losing weight. So that’s what I did. Thankfully, by May of this year, I was able to start building up my physical strength, and I am really proud of where I am now.
The problem with having a ridiculous amount of time on your hands, at least in my case, is how much information you discover on the internet and social media platforms. I always knew about the problems of the world, but suddenly, it became part of my everyday reality.
Hate in the form of conflict, Genocide and the everyday killing of children in the form of famine, disease and being martyred along with whole families, and watching this unfold in real time and much more. To be clear, I am not an activist, but I have so much respect for the people who are brave enough to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. That is why, after much thought about what I could actually do, I decided that I wanted to raise money for Doctors Without Borders to help them provide much-needed aid to the people who vitally need it.
About Sian…
Biast aside, Sian was the most beautiful human being that I have ever met. She was an amazing daughter, sister and friend to everyone she met. She achieved her master’s degree in human rights. However, she was advocating and helping people from a young age. Sian would always stand up for anyone who needed it and would not allow anyone to say a bad word about anyone.
She spent time working for the Church to help people who were homeless and supporting addicts. After University and working for the church, Sian joined the Children's Society but sadly passed away after only a few months on Christmas Day 2020. I do not doubt that if she were here today, she would be changing the world for the better.
Without trying, Sian exhumed love and Kindness to all. It did not matter to her their ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. She just looked at every person as a human being and never based how she felt on the actions of a few individuals. She would always choose to be Kind. In the words of Amelia Earheart “ A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees”.
Sian really was a shining light in a dark world. She loved colour and had the most wonderful laugh that often literally took her breath away. If you needed her, she was always there, only to listen without judgment.
Sadly, Sian did not advocate for herself very well; she did not always recognise her own beauty and how much she was dearly loved by everyone she knew. But up there with Jesus, she knows.
If you can, please donate via the links. I understand if you are unable to, and I would very much appreciate it if you could like, follow and share instead.
Love and Kindness,
Liz.
