Earlier this year I was lucky enough to meet and spend time getting to know the amazing Kate Coakley and her lovely mum Liz.

Kate is just 44 and was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer just a week before Christmas Day 2014 which had spread to her bones and one of her lungs. To meet her you'd never even know, her energy and drive for life and to conquer her cancer is truly inspirational, despite having been told by her oncologist that she would only live for a maximum of four years and chemotherapy would simply “delay the inevitable” which Kate refused and has instead dedicated her time to research alternative therapies. The cancer was so severe that it fractured bones in her spine and the top of her right arm where she needed a metal rod inserted, and earlier this year she was told her cancer had spread to her liver.

After much consideration, Kate has decided to travel to the Hallwang Clinic in Germany where she has begun specialist treatment costing her a huge £60,000.

Kate’s already had a fantastic amount of support, but I wanted to do my bit to help towards the cost of Kate’s treatment giving her the very best chance of beating her cancer.

To help raise as much funds as possible towards Kate’s treatment, I’ve set myself a challenge to complete three treks before the end of October.

My first challenge will be trekking 9 miles to reach the 3,560ft summit of Snowdon on either 24/25 September, and then I will complete some ‘more local’ expeditions across the Pennines/Peaks in the weeks to follow.
