I am currently a student in my final year of sixth form at The Bishops Stortford High School. After my A levels, I am planning to take a gap year! As part of this gap year, I will be travelling to South Africa to volunteer as a teacher for children aged 8-14 for 5 weeks. I will be travelling with an organisation called Camp South Africa, supporting a charity ‘Through Sport United’, dedicated to helping community based development in underprivileged areas.

I will be mostly teaching English, with the opportunity to do some sports coaching too, in two different schools throughout the 5 weeks. The work volunteers carry out in underprivileged areas such as this are essential for children to gain an education, because levels of education do not stay within strict guidelines in South Africa. Some children will need help because they are falling behind, whilst others need some extra tuition because they are ahead in their classes which is encouraged by the charity.

All donations will help me help others! The donations will go towards the cost of the programme and the charity, which is a total cost of £1,019. Any other donations will then help towards me getting there – flights, vaccinations / medical forms and insurance.

Every donation will be very very much appreciated, however little or large! My target has to be hit by August 4th, 8 weeks before I leave! Any future fundraising events before this date will be posted on my Facebook page.
