Those who know me will understand my dedication to teaching. Transferring the skills I have been fortunate enough to gain across the world seemed like a good enough reason to give up my holidays and support others in need

I am thrilled to have been accepted on the LRTT (Limited Resource Teacher Training) Fellowship for August 2017 in Uganda. LRTT is a charity based ‘fellowship’ which began with five friends visiting and supporting teaching in Uganda, who recognised the need for more support in education. LRTT now support 10 countries and this year they have recruited 2000 teachers for their programmes.

I will be travelling to Uganda to lead and support teachers facing difficulties we cannot imagine in the UK. LRTT supports teachers across the Bwindi and Masindi regions of Uganda. Many of the teachers they train teach classes of 60+ children with only a chalkboard. In classrooms like these, making sure every child is learning is a real challenge and innovative approaches can make a real difference.

190 million school children around the world can't read this sentence. Failure to provide high-quality education is a global learning crisis that's costing us $129 billion a year.

A global challenge in education - A shortage of teachers

The UN estimates 33 countries won't have enough teachers to provide every child with primary education by 2030. This means nearly 69 million teachers must be recruited and trained.

I am committed to supporting teaching across the world and I now have four months to raise the funds which will pay for my training, vaccinations and travel. In August I will be able to use my training to lead and support teachers who may have had little or no training to become a teacher.

I can make a difference to teachers in Africa and I am sure learn many skills to bring back to the UK too.

I plan to fundraise through events which will help raise a total of £2500 altogether.
