Story
Hi all, I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since the start of Ellie’s Journey.
The past two years have been both difficult and challenging for everyone. We as a family faced added challenges during the pandemic as my Dad has Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited condition in which the lungs and digestive system can become clogged with thick mucous.
It can cause problems with breathing and digestion from a young age. Over many years, the lungs become increasingly damaged and may eventually stop working properly.
Most cases of cystic fibrosis in the UK are now identified through screening tests carried out soon after birth. It's estimated that 1 in every 2,500 babies born in the UK has cystic fibrosis.
A number of treatments are available to help reduce the problems caused by the condition, but unfortunately average life expectancy is reduced for people who have it.
This year I have decided to continue to raise awareness and money for the All Wales Cystic Fibrosis Center at Llandough Hospital, Cardiff. Now more than ever money is needed to continue supporting patients and their families.
I have decided to push myself even further this year.
I will attempt to complete the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours on July 1st 2023!
My goal is to raise more awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and to raise as much money as possible so that the All Wales Cystic Fibrosis Centre can continue treating and supporting patients and their families.
