Hey there! My name is Elliott Roberts, i’m 16 and have been selcected for the 2019 world scout jamboree in West Virgina representing West Yorkshire scouting. The total cost of the trip is £3800 of which i hope to subsidise as much as possible through fundraising as part of my payments it goes into helping uk scouting give fiancial aid towards those who cant pay for the jamboree themselves essentially scouts from other less developed countries, this allows for a more diverse jamboree and give me the once in a lifetime opportunity i have dreamt of since i was a little beaver...which is a while ago considering im now 6”3,sorry bad joke anyway...i have heard about the various preceeding jamborees since i was a child and have always wanted to go for myself. To get my place on the jamboree i had to apply with an application, attend an interview and go on a selction weekend - where may i add it was filled with England‘s gloriously sunny weather...meaning it chucked it down - but all attendants managed to keep a smile on my face even with soggy feet and complete the activities that challenged a range of skills from teamworking to scouting abilities and so it was whittled down to 54 of us from the original 200 applicants well after a 3 week edge of the seat waiting time while the selection team decided who made the cut, and i was really happy to find out I was one of the scouts chosen from the large number of deserving candidates. And so here we are, the 2019 world scout jamboree in North America will be the 24th jamboree which are held all around the world, it will be hosted jointly by Canada, Mexico, and the USA taking place at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virgina (Que song outburst of John Denvers country road) it is a 3 weeks expedition that will contain: 12 days at the jamboree itself, 4 days city visit, and a 5 days home hospitlality sub camp experiance (HOHO). The world scout jamboree is about scouts from around the world coming together, having fun, and discovering one anothers cultures, and of course trying some delicous food from all the countries.
