Story
Mental Health therapy is oversubscribed by a huge margin and for many, too difficult to access through the NHS. The longer the wait, the worse the problem becomes. The merry-go-round of doctors referrals, signposting, layers of triage, assessments and lack of ownership means therapy is rarely delivered. Meanwhile the months and years go by and the problem festers, often lost in the system and in the worst case resulting in someone taking their own life, just like Elliott. Sadly statistics show almost one suicide a week in Kent.
The Elliott Holmes Memorial Fund has been set up to raise funds to access private mental health therapy for young people in our local community, supported and funded by the local community and businesses. Our aim is to work with local schools to achieve this.
At an average cost of £50 a session we need to raise £700 to make a real difference to a young person's life. Wouldn't it be a fantastic achievement, if through local events and this page we could all contribute and help 10 young people in our community in our first year?
We aim to raise money through a variety of events throughout the year. This fundraising page has been set up for individuals to make a donation if they cannot attend an event, or indeed, if you would just like to contribute to helping young people in our community.
We have been inspired by two famous Bishop Desmond Tutu quotes:
There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in. ”
Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
