Story

Hello there!

I am a transgender male living in London. For those of you that don’t know, this means that I was assigned female at birth but now identify as male. There are many steps to take in order to medically transition, such as going on hormones, top surgery (the removal of the breast tissue), and bottom surgery (the alteration of genitalia in order match the individual’s gender identity).

Whilst there is NHS services for transgender and gender-variant people, the waiting list for London is currently up to 3 years long. Being stuck in this body that doesn’t feel like mine has severely affected my mental health, and will continue to do so as long as I am unable to change it.

The process of medically transitioning privately is extremely expensive, with the average top surgery in London costing £6,000. As a disabled person who is unable to work, it would be impossible to find this amount of money by myself. Unfortunately, I don’t have the support of family with my situation and so I’m looking to the public for some kindness and support. Anything helps, and it means the world to me if you could even just share this.
