Story
At Elmslie, one of our first decisions was to select a form charity. Throughout the school year, we constantly worked to raise funds for that cause. We also had 'Outset', this was a way for Elmslie Girls to work in their community. This may include weeding for an elderly person or running errands.
As our school is no longer there, we want to create a lasting legacy for future generations and, with this in mind, we have decided on the Elmslie Community Initiative. (The name is not set in stone). An annual fundraiser for the proceeds from our events to be put to work in the local community.
Each year, we will select a school in the FY1-FY4 postode areas and make an award in Elmslies name. This year, as the inaugural year, we selected Devonshire Rd Primary in remembrance of Dorothy Ford.
At the Afternoon Tea, held on 29/09/19, we raised £253.00 with the raffle with another £30.00 being donated by an Old Girl. The funds raised at our Spring Event, along with anything raised here, will be donated next Autumn to another local school.
In her speech, presented at the Afternoon Tea, Christine Hodgson told us about the shocking levels of childhood poverty in Blackpool. Anything that we can do, to ease the pressure for those in need, is desperately needed.
Please, give what you can. No matter how small, it all adds up.
