Story
We are a team partaking in NCS this year and as individuals we believe that there isn’t enough awareness for dementia and for dementia carers.
We have teamed up with a charity called BRACE who fundraise in order to help provide funding for research to help improve the lives of people suffering from dementia. We have come to the decision to do a sponsored walk from UWE to Severn Beach and back which is 15.6 miles long and will approximately take us 6 hours. We are also selling BRACElets that we have made on stalls that we will be setting up in various locations where we can also speak to the general public to raise awareness.
Our aim is to also improve the lifestyle of those suffering with dementia, it is very easy for them to feel isolated due to the fact that they are constantly surrounded by carers instead of friends. To achieve this we are going to do regular routine visits to a care home we are working closely with to provide companionship to the elderly but also to support the carers so they know they aren’t alone.
We alone can’t create the cure for dementia, but as a community we can improve the lives of those who are suffering.
