Story
Newton Abbot: a town rich with industrial and farming history. So many generations have grown up here with happy memories. So many have bought their wares in the town, alongside cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry being sold in the markets, alongside skilled work taking place inside vast, historic buildings.
Yet Newton Abbot is suffering from rapid change, over development, and loss of tradition. For several years I have been photographing this wonderful town, and earlier this year decided I should really share the work with others. I am raising money to enable a beautiful photographic volume to be made, documenting key historic parts of the town, both heritage and tradition.
From this I realise how important memories are. As a link to the past and a hope for the future. In the last few months alone we have seen miles of green field covered with new houses, the closure of our famous, 118 year old Tuckers Maltings, and the loss of three huge victorian railway repair buildings to arson. Photography is a powerful tool that can enable these memories to survive. I hope that this book will serve as a a tool for us to maintain the threads of our past in order to invigorate the future. Whilst my town moves a little painfully towards its future, I hope this volume of photographs will remain to remind it of its heritage.

5 years agoGreetings everyone, and happy new year! My page may have been quiet, but I have been quietly busy. Apart from the usual interruptions of Christmas and New year, I enjoyed giving a presentation at Plympton Community Photographic studios before christmas, have a heritage funding bid to complete, and am considering two current publishing options for the book. More updates to come! Here, the Bullzini Family Funambulists entertain the public on the last of the three Christmas Street Fayres, on 19 December. ©

Newton Abbot in Photographs
6 years agoThe last section of the Wagon and Coach Repair building has come down, the demolition site is striking. The town is in its Christmas run up, and we had a energetic lights switch on this Saturday. Here, some of the young faces respond to the fireworks that erupted from the top of St Leonards tower, a great idea, for its closeness. I have raised over £450 of my target, and my computer has been brought back from the dead, hopefully, no further setbacks for a while. Thank you for donating! ©
