Story
Deansfield School is raising money to create a living wall or Green Screen along Rochester Way in order to protect our children from exposure to traffic pollution.
Here is a message from the Deansfield Eco-Council children (year 6, ages 10-11)
Our School, Deansfield Primary, is located on a very busy road and our playground backs right onto it.
We would really like to improve our outdoor environment and make it a more attractive and safe place for us to play.
We don’t have many plants and we think that the Green Screen will cut down the pollution by taking in the CO2 coming out of the cars and we would feel more shielded. It would also make the playground a more relaxing place to be.”
Both the Eltham Enviros and the Deansfield Staff would really appreciate your support by funding this project, it will not only be beneficial to the children currently enjoying their school life at Deansfield but also a legacy to all those children yet to embark on their journey at our great school.
Some more info:
Air pollution particularly affects children. Regular exposure to high levels of air pollutants such as PM2.5, Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone, has been linked to respiratory and cognitive issues. Adding 'green' infrastructure like 'barrier bushes' help to filter fumes.
This type of intervention has been
used by a school on Lordship Lane and has reduced pollution levels by 53%
A living wall will also help to reduce noise pollution and is beneficial to animal life.
