Story
My name is Emilia and I am six years old.
Yesterday I had an operation, I had my tonsils removed. I have had poorly tonsils for a very long time and now they won't make me poorly anymore 😊
I spent the whole day on the Children's Ambulatory Care Unit at the Queens Medical Centre and the team were all fabulous. There's a lovely lady called Claire in the playroom, there are some great nurses (Rachel and Bradley are my favourite) and great anesthetists and doctors too.
I am so happy with how well I was looked after at the hospital that I want to do something for them!
The Children's Ambulatory Care Unit is a day case unit with eight reclining chairs and one bed and is used for children requiring daycase elective procedures. Patients are admitted in the morning and afternoon for surgery or investigations such as specialist scans under general anaesthetic/sedation and are discharged primarily by the nursing staff when appropriate.
The Unit has a great playroom but once you have had your operation or procedure you have to stay in your bed or chair for a very long time (anything more than ten minutes is a long time when you are six!!) and trying to stop yourself from getting bored is very tricky! We found out that the unit used to have two iPads that the children could use once they had had their operation but unfortunately these went missing!
I have decided that I would like to raise some money to buy a new iPad for the Unit. I am back at home now but I am not allowed out of the house for another ten days so I have decided to do a sponsored read! I will read ten books in ten days, that's one book every day! And they won't be short pictures books either, they will be chapter books!
Being in hospital is not very nice but the staff on The Children's Ambulatory Care Unit do a great job of looking after you and I would like to try and make it even better.
Please sponsor me, the challenge I have set won't be easy but it is for a fantastic cause. 💗
