Story

In January 2023, Tracey Darvell and I, will be volunteering for two weeks at the Village of Hope, in Delhi, to help people living with leprosy. The Village of Hope is a residential village community, where leprosy patients receive free wound-care and their families have access to vocational skills training.

Leprosy is an infectious disease that causes severe, disfiguring skin sores and nerve damage in the arms, legs, and skin areas around your body. Leprosy wounds need to have frequent dressing changes to facilitate healing, and so HOPE foundation built a Bandaging Unit, which provides free medication, bandaging, and wound-care to leprosy patients.

HOPE worldwide UK raises funds for the Village of Hope, each year, but also supports the Bandaging Unit through volunteer visits, including regular visits by qualified podiatrists, like myself, from the UK.

I will be working in the Bandaging Unit helping manage complex wounds, working with the community to continue the work of preventing ulcers and helping to upskill the local staff so that they will be able to carry on our work after we have left.

Any donation big or small, is hugely appreciated and 100% of donations will go directly towards equipment (tricycles and footwear) to help those suffering with Leprosy.

THANK YOU XX
