Story
My father Martin died in November 2017 after an 18 month fight with aplastic anemia. He was passionate about - and deeply talented at - mathematics since he was young. He applied his knowledge of maths to improve people's health by helping understand the causes and consequences of obesity and smoking.
By creating a Mathematics award at the school that my husband founded - Reach Academy Feltham - I want to celebrate Martin's love of mathematics. I also want to help gifted young people in a vulnerable community to pursue maths. The award would be for two secondary school children each year over five years. The award will fund opportunities e.g. to visit universities, summer schools and workshops, and materials e.g. inspirational reading. This would allow these young people to fulfill their potential, get into excellent universities and become great mathematicians who use their skills to help the world, like Martin did.
