Story
Hello Everyone!
My name is Emily Redhead and since the death of my big sister Amy, I have been busy keeping her legacy alive but most of all raising awareness and in doing so, I hope to save someone’s life.
Amy was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a form of IBD at the age of eleven. Unfortunately in October 2017, Amy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel and Liver Cancer, age 27 and was told she had only months to live. On 15 February 2018, Amy sadly passed away age 28.
In April 2018 I decided to write down my thoughts and feelings on this journey, which has helped slightly with my grief, but ultimately it has helped me create my booklet which I have called ‘Living on the other side of Ulcerative Colitis’.
My booklet is aimed mostly at siblings who have a sibling that suffers with Ulcerative Colitis and being aware of the risks, what I have called ‘warning signs’ and how important it is to know just as much about the illness as the person living with it does. If I knew then what I know now, I feel I could of helped support my sister more and until my recent research I was not aware that Colitis sufferers are at a higher risk of getting Bowel Cancer. This is mostly highlighted to the ‘older patients’ but that is not always the case as we saw with my beloved big sister. Amy was also diagnosed with severe Anaemia, which again, was controlled through medication but something I personally never linked her colitis with, or even cancer. Only now when I research do I realise…
My booklet is currently available to buy on the Kindle Store on Amazon and I have recently had 300 copies printed in A5 booklet form. I am hoping to distribute these and reach as many people within the UK who find theirselves in Amy’s position or mine. Each booklet is being sold for £3.50 and £4.50 on Amazon with 50% of all money raised going to Crohn’s & Colitis.

My name is Emily Redhead and I have decided to share my side of living with a sibling who has Ulcerative Colitis. You will learn as you read on how I lost my darling sister to bowel cancer and how, as a sibling, I was not aware of the risks for Colitis sufferers.
