Story

I will be travelling to Peru in summer 2018 with Camps International to do voluntary work to help improve the lives of the local community. In Peru, there is a disparity between wealth and poverty, with 54% of rural communities living below the poverty line. There is also a lack of education and poor growing conditions for vegetables resulting in severe malnutrition in the highlands. 18% are malnourished and 33% of under 15 year olds are employed rather than being at school.

During the expedition I will be helping with some of the ongoing projects run by Camps International which improve education, housing, healthcare, sanitation, food and water security and environmental protection. I will be involved in many activities including laying foundations, plastering, decorating buildings, mixing cement, paving and planting small food crops.

We are on our expedition for a month and work hard on community projects for 3 of these weeks. We are also given the opportunity to do a 5 day trek on the Salkantay Trail and visit the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, one of the new seven wonders of the world.

The expedition costs £4,170 and is a huge financial commitment to fulfill. I will be able to cover 50% of this cost myself as I currently have 2 Saturday jobs and have been saving my wages over several months and this will continue. However, I will also need additional funding. Please support me in raising money to enable me to go on this life-changing trip as I want to visit Peru and help make a positive contribution to the local communities.

THANK YOU!
