Story

My Sister's boyfriend, Xilombe was a truly extraordinary young man, so it s only fitting that in his memory I embarked upon an extraordinary expedition - those of you who know me well realise this is way out of my comfort zone and the biggest challenge I have ever done.

Myself, my sister, and a small group of his friends from South Africa, climbed Kilimanjaro (the worlds tallest freestanding mountain) to raise awareness and funds for the Limitless Foundation. 'Limitless' was founded by Xilombe in 2016, after he lost his arm in a freak hiking accident in 2013. Xilombe said “There is a saying that once you are on top, send the elevator down to fetch the others. Without physiotherapy, I would not have made it. Others are not as lucky as me. I would like to give back,” The charity therefore works to provide children in South Africa, suffering from both mental and physical disabilities, the opportunities and means to overcome the obstacles they face, allowing them to lead fulfilling lives despite the adversity.

Through Limitless Xilombe hoped to empower people with disabilities to realise that the only limits that exist are the ones we set for ourselves.

The timing is of this trip marks 5 years since Xilombe lost his arm, and in light of this he had decided to take on the challenge of Kilimanjaro. Since Xilombe is no longer with us, it is our responsibility to ensure his legacy lives on, so please give whatever you can. My trip has kindly been sponsored, so you can be sure that every penny you donate will go directly to a cause that was so close heart.

For those who did not have the privilege of meeting Xilombe, I have attached a video of an interview he did back in 2016 where he describes his story (far more eloquently than I could!), and you can get a sense of his character.
