I've raised £1500 to support Teachers in Rwanda through mentoring, facilitating workshops and participating within parental meetings, for example.

Story

I was lucky enough to go to the beautiful country of Rwanda last year as a Global Teacher. I was there for a month working for 3 weeks alongside Teaching staff in Kierehe and then for a week delivering Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for School Based Mentors in Kigali. I am going back for 4.5 weeks this Summer as a Team Lead to work with Global Teachers, School Based Mentors and Teachers in the districts of Ruhango and Gicumbi. The bit I'm passionate about, as an Education Social worker, is facilitating discussion and workshops on barriers to learning and parental engagement. Why might a child or young person struggle to engage with their Rwandan education & how can we get parents and families on board to support the education of their sons and their daughters.

I'm setting myself a bit of a challenge. In the 4 weeks I have left until I go I am going to cycle (on my faithful old exercise bike) the length of Rwanda North East to South West which is 248 km or 154 miles. I'm hoping to get a little fitter whilst encouraging people to get their pennies out!! (which would be genuinely appreciated).
