    Story

On the 23rd of October I am hoping to complete a sponsored cycling ride, in order to raise funds towards my internship in South Africa (starting 4th January 2017).

For a minimum of 6 months I will be working as an intern at LIV Village, in Durban, South Africa. "The LIV model is long term cluster foster care, where children have a sense of belonging in a supportive community, modelling an African village lifestyle. We place orphaned and vulnerable children into a family environment with a trained foster mother to love them, a school to educate them, and where they receive spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing." - LIV website (http://www.liv-village.com)

The internship is called LIV 4 Change, and focuses on 3 months of personal discipleship training while serving in everyday village life (spending time with the children, mothers, staff and local community). Then months 4-6 will be spent working in one area of the village; for example, the Early childhood development centre, Primary/Secondary School, Sport, Admin role (e.g. social services), Agriculture, Marketing, Factory/retail.

As this is a Gap Year where I will be a working volunteer - for what I believe, is an incredible and very effective charity - I feel it appropriate to ask for any chance of sponsorship money. On the 23rd of October I will be attempting to cycle 154 Kilometres in 1 day - there are currently 154 children in LIV's care, so each Kilometre will represent a child. I have never cycled this great a distance in 1 day before, so this will be a real personal challenge.
Any extra money raised will go directly to LIV Village.

Importantly, please do look into the ground-breaking work going on at LIV village; visit their website, youtube channel, donate... and see for yourself how many lives are being changed.

Rescue a child. Restore a life. Raise a leader. And Release a star. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5nQ_vR5vkg

A huge huge thank you to everyone who has donated....I have surpassed my sponsorship target with online and offline donations!!! I am so grateful and astonished at everyone's generosity. I completed the cycle ride last Sunday in approximately 8 hours and 15 minutes, it was certainly a challenge but still an really enjoyable day. Below are some pictures of the ride.
