Story

I'm aiming to raise £10,000 by running from Milton Keynes to London along the Grand Union Canal on Saturday 20 September. That’s 100 - 109km in one day to raise money for vital neurology research at UCL’s Institute of Neurology 🧠🏃‍♀️

Why this matters to me:

At 10:36am on Tuesday 14 December 2021, my daughter collapsed at school. What looked like “just” food poisoning turned out to be a bleed on the brain. The months that followed were frightening and exhausting. After a long fight for answers, we finally met Dr Joe Mole, whose expertise helped us understand how brain injury and neurodiversity were affecting her learning and motivation. That opened doors to the right support.

I can choose to train, adapt and keep going. Many people with the hidden effects of brain injury - especially difficulties with executive functions like planning and problem-solving - can’t do that without proper diagnosis and care.

That’s why I’m running.

If you can, please support my run and help fund Dr Mole’s research so more families get answers sooner and better treatments faster.

Huge thanks to my husband (towpath support crew 🚴), friends, colleagues and everyone cheering me on. I’ll do my best to make you proud.

Dr Mole is NHS Clinical Neuropsychologist in Oxford and researcher at The Institute of Neurology, UCLspecialises in improving the care of people with neurological conditions e.g. traumatic brain injury. His area of interest is furthering the understanding, assessment and treatment of difficulties with a set of complex thinking skills called ‘executive functions’.

Executive functions affect up to two thirds of people with neurological conditions - and can have a profound impact on the lives of patients and their families. Yet, because they are complex, they are poorly understood and often overlooked in clinical practice. This means that many people live with a 'hidden disability' and struggle to access the right support.

Dr Mole’s research aims to improve this situation. Please help me to support his research.
