Story

Hi! My name is Emma, I am 16 and am a student at The Perse School in Cambridge. This summer I am raising £1000 to support local and global education and science charities because I believe that youth empowerment is one of the most effective ways to tackle climate change and biodiversity emergencies worldwide.

I’m deeply concerned about the growing threat that fossil fuel emissions pose to our planet, whether its from rising global temperatures and extreme weather events to the irreversible damage being done to our ecosystems. Every day we delay action, the consequences become more severe, not just for us, but for future generations. I believe we urgently need a global shift toward clean, renewable energy sources that protect our environment and offer a sustainable future. That’s why I’ve decided to raise money to support awareness campaigns that educate, inspire action, and push for meaningful change.

Therefore, this summer I have pledged to cycle 100km with my friend Carla around Cambridgeshire, to raise funds for local and global charities who are trying to promote education and protect nature and communities from the impacts of climate change, species extinction and pollution.

All funds raised will go directly to the Global Youth Council on Science, Law and Sustainability and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre , who are working to empower youth, promote education about sustainability solutions and mobilise science to protect nature.

This cycling challenge is part of a bigger campaign: the GYC 1,000km challenge - a global movement where young people commit to walking, running, cycling or paddling 1,000km to collectively raise funds and awareness for climate action.

During our cycle, I will be documenting our journey on this page, so please stay tuned for updates. It also would be greatly appreciated if you could check out Carla's page here!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and read about my cause!
