Story

Jambo!

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!

Over the next 4 weeks we are volunteering with TAFCOM. TAFCOM was founded in 2005 as a home based care program for those suffering with HIV in Pasua, a suburbian village of Moshi, Kilimanjaro. Since then the organisation has developed a strong position within the community, and coordinates a number of projects. These projects share the common goal to improving quality of life and prospects for the community. As well as home visits, the charity has established a kindergarten centre, built a primary school, set up a woman's tailoring school and has also provided a number of microloans to vulnerable HIV positive individuals, enabling them to set up their own small businesses.

The aim of this fundraising is to raise enough money to buy the materials needed to create a more interactive learning environment for the children. The class we are supporting are aged 3-5 and come from less privileged backgrounds. Our vision is to create a vegetable garden where the children can learn how to grow nutritious food. We believe that this will inform them both how to eat healthily and to respect and look after the environment. We also want to bring their classroom to life buy making posters and flashcards which support the teaching syllabus!

We hope to raise £80 to construct a small vegetable patch at TAFCOM's kindergarten. Subsequent to that we will buy teaching materials and equipment. Even just £1 is enough to buy the children a pack of pens or pencils, so every little really does help! We would also love to raise enough money to provide a microloan to one of the hundreds of HIV positive patients that are waiting for help from TAFCOM - just £100 is enough for them to start a small business, enabling a family to become self sufficient and guarantee an income. TAFCOM provides regular support and training to ensure these businesses thrive and donations are used efficiently.

These are the children of the lower kindergarten class that was founded by TAFCOM. All of them are from very poor backgrounds and would not be able to go to school without the help of TAFCOM.

This is Fatuma, one of the HIV positive individuals that TAFCOM has helped. The microloan provided to Fatuma by TAFCOM has enabled her to set up a fruit and vegetable stall in Pasua. The stall is a huge success, and provides her with enough income to support herself and her family.

A small donation goes a long way in Tanzania, so please help us to make this happen!
