Story

2017 Didn’t quite go to plan, for two serving police officers it actually changed their lives.

In February 2017 Pc Emma ARTHURS was diagnosed with Breast Cancer having found a lump while getting dressed, within 6 weeks of diagnosis she began the mountain of treatments which started with 6 sessions of chemotherapy, this was followed by 3 lots of surgery including a Mastectomy and then 15 sessions of radiotherapy.

Despite the levels of sickness, the weight gain and the baldness the whole process was made easier by the amazing staff at Colchester Hospitals’ Mary Barron Suite which is where most of the treatments were administered, as you can imagine it’s not the nicest place to be but despite the darkness of the situation it was at times the only ray of sunshine for Emma as it involved a day out with the most amazing nurses and Dr’s who really do know their stuff and are happy to be there.

At the same time as this was going on Pc Sally WILSON was also undergoing her own gruelling treatment plan having also been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, her treatment took place at Ipswich Hospitals’ Radiotherapy suite and lasted many weeks, again the experience was made easier by the efficient and friendly staff who guided Sally through the process making it easier to cope when everything was so uncertain.

Both of these Hospitals have provided these ladies with the treatment they required in order to get them both back on duty serving the communities they love, as a token of their appreciation they are going to put themselves through the Alton Water 5k Race on Sunday 6th May supported by a number of other female police officers who have also been key in Sally and Emma’s recovery.

We have set up this crowd funding page so that we can raise a small amount of money for both of the treatment centres so they can fund the important things like tea and coffee for patients and their families! If you can donate a small amount of money to go towards our target of £500 we would be very honoured as it means an awful lot to us all. (Please note that the proceeds will be divided 50/50 to each Hospital)
