    Story

I have been very touched by the plight of the children of Batase Village in Nepal many of whom were left homeless and orphaned by the devastation of their village following the earthquake of 2015. A local villager Som Tamang has worked tirelessly to restore the village and provide shelter and educational facilities through his charity Friends of Himalayan Children, an humanitarian organisation working to stop child labour and child slavery through providing access to education, a safe home for disadvantaged children and community development projects in rural Nepal.

    (Australian charity number 1A 36480)

I am supporting this work by undertaking a 14 day trek to Everest Base Camp and would be immensely grateful for any donation that you can offer to help continue the amazing work being done to provide these children and in particular the young girls with an education providing them with opportunities for employment that will save them from the risk of exploitation through child trafficking.

All participants including hikers and the support team are female and I am undertaking the physical challenge in memory of the strong women who have guided me in my life - my mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and twin sister.

We got to Everest base camp thanks to the support of our amazing team of mostly female porters Hearing their stories as we walked made it clear that the work of this charity is truly saving them from young marriages (Rita was married at 13 and has managed to escape and gain an education thanks to the work of the charity). Thank you for all your support so far and please continue to support this work.
