    Story

    #EndPeriodPoverty

In an average lifetime people spend thousands of pounds on their periods. What contributes to this is a combination of rising prices of products and the UK's 5% 'Tampon Tax'.

Most have the ability to afford these products however what about those who can't afford the 'luxury' of sanitary products every month?

In October 2017 a study of around 1,000 UK women showed that 1 in 10 women between 14 - 21 are unable to afford sanitary products. (Plan International UK)

In February 2018 We Are Futures, in connection with Always, conducted research among 545 teachers and school staff in UK schools with students aged 11 and over. This study found that a fifth of UK parents were struggling to afford sanitary products for their daughters, with over 135,000 girls missing out on school each year because of period poverty.

Campaigns like #TheHomelessPeriod & #BloodyGoodPeriod have shown how those that are homeless, Asylum Seekers or are on low incomes struggle on a monthly basis to provide themselves and their children with sanitary products.

    It doesn't bare thinking about...and that's the problem - #TheHomelessPeriod

I am currently collecting product donations and money to purchase sanitary products to be donated to shelters and projects in Leicester. The donations will be going to:

    - After18: a charity in Leicester for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people.

    - Mosaic Foodbank : A regular foodbank and support service in Leicester

    - Zinthiya Trust : A Leicester-based support service for women from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The target has been set at £60 so we are able to donate as much as possible (the aim being £20 per organisation) but anything you can give will be much appreciated.

    Average Prices:

    - Sanitary Towels (£2-£5 per avg. pack)

    - Tampons (£3-£6 per avg. pack)

If you would like to donate - the money will be used to purchase sanitary products for donations and any money that is left over will be donated to the campaigns mentioned above.

If you would prefer to donate products rather than money please contact me on rmillmoor@gmail.com and we can arrange for you to drop-off products to be added to the donation collection.

I will be posting updates on this page as we go forward to keep you updated on where your donations are going.
