Story

(Hi everyone! We've had to make a new fundraising page as our old one expired, so this will continue on from the donations that we have already received. Up until now we have received an amazing £861.13! Thank you so much to everybody who has donated so far, you have made us one step closer to reaching our goal!)

Dogs4Us Manchester is one of the largest puppy retailers in the UK, licensed to accommodate and sell up to 70 puppies at any given time.

Over recent years there has been increased awareness about the sources from which Dogs4Us obtain their puppies. Puppies are purchased from puppy farms; places where puppies are bred in huge volumes, and are viewed as livestock rather than as domestic companions. Breeding mothers are often forced to have litters back to back, until their bodies can no longer cope, at which point the majority are dumped or even killed. The puppies are then removed from their mothers and are treated as goods, where they are bought by other breeders or pet shops, such as Dogs4Us. Because these puppies are produced in such high volumes, many inherit poor health and behavioural issues, and are then sold on to unsuspecting members of the public.

After many years of various groups campaigning to close down Dogs4Us, and raising awareness of the cruelty behind the sale of pet shop puppies, the sales still continue and the council are ultimately responsible, as they provide pet shops, like Dogs4Us, with a license to sell. The council are aware of this situation, due to publicity in local media and features on national television, however, they are reluctant to revoke these licenses.

After contacting a reputable law firm, there is an opportunity to take legal action against Salford council, unless they revoke the license from Dogs4Us. To make this initial challenge, a cost of £1920 in legal fees has been put forward, plus costs of 5% from Just Giving.

If this case is won, this could lead to a domino effect of other councils re-evaluating their decision to provide pet shops, like Dogs4Us, with a license to sell. With your help, we can begin to take drastic action towards the ultimate goal of ending the sale of pet shop puppies, and the funding of the puppy farm trade. So please, please, give what you can. Together we can help stop this vile trade!
