Weʼve raised £365 to buy toys for children in the wards I was treated in 10 years ago, when I was diagnosed with cancer.

    Story

Ten years ago I was diagnosed with a Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer. My life changed forever that day. I was 9. Imagine being 9 years old and going through cancer? I practically lived in Yorkhill hospital. I recieved chemotherpy and underwent a 9 hour operation. It was the most brutal, awful and saddest time of my life but I still have some rare happy memories that stand out.
If my temperature reached a certain level then I had to be taken to hospital immediatley and put into isolation. It was the worst thing that could happen as far as I was concered. Being stuck in a room with nothing but my thoughts. Time to think about what was happening to me, what I was going through and most of all scared.
There was one thing but that made it all a little bit easier and that was having my toys there to play with. They took my mind of the fact I was locked away from the outside world. They distracted me and I entered a world of imagination, joy and happiniess.
Thankfully I am through it and this Decemeber marks my 10th year chemotherapy free! Although I am fortunate enough to be through that nightmare, there are still hundreds of kids going through this. There are still kids going through the lowest and scariest times of their lives. There are still kids in isolation for weeks sometimes months at time.
Christmas is coming up and while you are all busy preparing and starting your shopping there are parents sitting in hospital by their sick child's bed and christmas is the last thing they can think off. The likliehood is most parents won't be able to afford christmas presents because they have had to give up their job to be by theiur sick child's side.
I want to help them, I want to help put a smile on the faces of these little warriors. For my 10th year chemo free I ask you all to make a donation of either money to buy toys or toys. *Please note the toys must be new due to infection purposes.* I want to help these kids and their families. Please donate.
