    Story

On the 15th of May 2015, 3 months before we were due to get married, my husband Pete was rushed into hospital, as his foot had swelled up to twice it's normal size. He has Type 2 Diabetes, and this was a major concern as he had regular ulcers on his feet that were causing problems. This time Pete had a very serious infection in his foot, and it was spreading fast up his leg. Surgery was his only chance of survival, and he was transferred to Glan Clwyd Hospital, when he arrived, it was becoming clearer that he was actually slipping away from me, the surgeons and anaesthetist told me they had 30 minutes to get him into theatre or we would loose him. Although they did save his life, the surgery was massively bodged. The wrong toe was amputated and they didn't remove the dead tissue and left most of the infection in his foot. After 3 days, and much persistent by the nurses and surgeons of Ysbyty Gwynedd, Pete was transferred there and within a matter of a few hours of arriving the head consultant and surgeon had arranged for him to have surgery, trying to save his leg as they weren't sure if he was going to loose his left leg entirely. They did manage to save his leg, but they had to amputate 3 toes, and cut up all the way up his shin, and remove all the tissue right down to the bone. This was the only way they could save my husband.
We have no doubt at all that without the nurses and consultants and surgeons of the vascular team of Ysbyty Gwynedd Pete would have lost his leg, and more than anything they even got him to our wedding on the 22nd of August, where he was STOOD at the altar waiting for me. It has been a difficult 2 years, and the entire staff of Dulas Ward have been crucial in the recovery and healing of Pete's leg. The entire Vascular Outreach Team of Ysbyty Gwynedd have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
I will be doing a TANDEM SKYDIVE to raise money for this amazing team of people who are true heroes and who I owe my husbands life to. Thank you
