Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Hi, my name is Ethan Kent, I am 23 years old and I suffer from an Anxiety Disorder, Depression and Borderline Personality Disorder. Setting up this justgiving page is incredibly difficult for me and asking for help with money is something I generally hate doing but that being said it is desperately needed, it would be a massive help in taking the pressure off of myself and my family financially and making sure I can get the best treatment going forward.

I have suffered with my Mental Health for as long as I can remember, going way back to when I was a young child but it was only in my teens when I realised something wasn't quite right. At 13 I was diagnosed with IBS and at 15 I was diagnosed with an Overactive Bladder, later on, at the age of 19, I realised these were only psychical symptoms of a much bigger problem in an Anxiety Disorder and it didn't take long for a diagnosis to be given. At 21 I was diagnosed with Depression and just a couple of months ago before I turned 23 my Psychiatrist diagnosed me with an Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder otherwise known as Borderline Personality Disorder.

Over the last few years I have been through CBT therapy via the NHS but it's always been apparent I needed ongoing therapy rather than the 6-8 weeks they offer and it takes months before being seen again and usually with someone else. In 2017 I was referred to see a psychiatrist through the NHS but after 3 months of waiting and chasing them up to be told each time there is a long waiting time and they couldn't tell me how long it would be before I was seen, my family and I decided to pay privately as we needed to get to the bottom of what was going on and we needed a better continuity of care going forward. However at an initial £170 first appointment and £130 each session afterwards it isn't possible to see the psychiatrist as often as I need to.

With the NHS letting me down over and over again, I am also now having to pay privately to see a therapist at £70 a session once a week also.

I have tried to keep myself afloat for as long as possible but unfortunately, over the last couple of years, I have been unable to work and have since used up what money I had available making sure bills are paid and paying for treatment and my medication.

This is going to be a long journey and until I am well enough again to work I really need some help making sure my private healthcare is paid for so I can continue trying to recover and get better. I am extremely optimistic I have got the best healthcare for myself in place going forward and I really want to give it my all and any donations would help make that possible.

I have set my initial goal at £2500 as that would cover my weekly therapy appointments for the next 6 months and seeing the psychiatrist every 6 to 8 weeks in the same time frame.
