I've raised £500 to pay for Ethel's vet bill.

Help Us Cover Ethel’s Vet Bill – A Golden Girl Who Deserves Comfort
Meet Ethel, a sweet and gentle senior cat who came into our care unexpectedly—and urgently. We weren’t planning to take in any new rescues right now, as we’ve been focusing on raising funds to build larger outdoor pens and convert our summerhouse into a dedicated quarantine and safe space for vulnerable cats. But Ethel’s situation was too heartbreaking to ignore.
Her elderly, disabled owner was preparing to move into assisted living. When she first applied, she was told Ethel could come with her. But just two weeks before her move, the organisation told her Ethel would no longer be allowed. Devastated and desperate, she felt her only option was to have Ethel put to sleep.
We knew we had to help. Ethel deserved better. We started looking for a forever home but didn’t want to rush the process and risk putting her somewhere that wasn’t the right fit. Thankfully, one of the amazing volunteers from our non-profit shop stepped forward and offered to foster her, giving her a loving and peaceful place to land.
This was not a planned rescue, and it has come with significant costs. So far, we’ve spent £417.23 on:
🐾 Full veterinary consultation
🐾 Blood tests to investigate her health
🐾 Nail trim to improve her mobility
🐾 Gabapentin for pain relief
🐾 Thyronorm to treat her newly diagnosed hyperthyroidism
🐾 Discussion around starting Solensia for her arthritis
We’ve also covered:
🛏️ A soft, cosy new bed
🍽️ Raised food and water bowls to ease discomfort
🧶 Scratch toys and enrichment
🧸 Gentle toys for comfort
🚗 Travel to and from the vet and to her foster home
🍽️ Food and litter to get her settled
Ethel’s care is ongoing. A dental has also been mentioned by our vet, and we’re unsure how long we will need to financially support her.
We will continue to look for a forever home for Ethel, but it must be with someone experienced in senior cat care, and who is able to take on responsibility for her ongoing veterinary needs from the date of adoption.
At Karen’s Cat Community, we are a small, mother-and-daughter-run rescue in the heart of Wales, operating since 2017. We’ve always focused on the cats who need the most—those who are vulnerable, forgotten, or in crisis. Our rescue runs from our home, and we rely entirely on donations, fundraising, and the kindness of our supporters.
🙏 This was a completely unexpected expense, but we simply couldn’t say no to Ethel. If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it will go directly towards her vet care and comfort.

🐾 Thank you so much for always being there for us and for cats like Ethel. We truly couldn’t do this without you.
With love,
